Arm Yourself in Spiritual Warfare

Introduction
Although there is spiritual warfare, God has provided us with strong weapons to resist. You can confidently walk in God’s strength and fend off the enemy with the help of these prayers for protection below.
Christians are perpetually involved in a spiritual battle or conflict. Spiritual warfare is similar to physical warfare in that individuals engage in conflict on multiple battlefields for a range of causes and with varying degrees of ferocity. Our spiritual fights are as real as if the attackers were physically in front of us, despite the fact that we cannot see them. Both angelic and demonic forces are at work in the world we live in. Every day, as Christians, we engage in a dilemma of faith or spiritual conflict with evil. As in heaven, Jesus tells us to pray for God’s will to be fulfilled on earth. The gates of hell cannot stop us from accomplishing the mission that God has set out for us to do since He is guiding our lives in accordance with His will.
There are many approaches to spiritual warfare. You have the enemy pacing around trying to intimidate us. Should we ignore him, fight him, fear him, or laugh at him. It’s so hard to find practical advice in the Christian community because of this diversity. I hope to lay out a quick backdrop and then give some practical spiritual warfare prayers to help Christians feel powerful when it comes to spiritual warfare. It is important to know how the enemy likes to operate. Their primary form of operation is in the shadows. They reign from darkness for that is their kingdom. If the enemy can get you to not see them, then they can execute their plan unhindered. They win the battle because we don’t show up.
Second, if they are exposed, the enemy will threaten you. They hope to produce fear and/or anger in you. The enemy knows that if they can get your focus on either of these two things, you will lose hope and lose sight of Jesus. If the enemy can find success in this area, Christians will either run from the battle or run into it without the covering of God’s presence.
What is Spiritual Warfare?
The unseen conflict that every Christian fights between good and evil is known as spiritual warfare. The Bible makes it abundantly evident that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood,” but against spiritual forces of evil, even if we may not be able to see the enemy (Ephesians 6:12). The devil wants to sabotage your relationship with God, in-still fear in you, and divert your attention from your divine mission. But don’t worry, we already have the victory because of Jesus Christ. “The righteous shall live by faith” the scriptures declare —Romans 1:17 (KJV) The first step to triumph and protection is acknowledging the spiritual conflict. Our Prayer-life, the Holy Bible, and our complete obedience and submission to God, provide us the strength and clarity to thwart the enemy’s plans.
But since the Lord Jesus Christ conquered death, the victory has already been won by those who have faith in God. We must be born again with faith in Jesus Christ if we want to be delivered from the second death of the spirit. The Bible tells us to be vigilant, and we should safeguard our hearts and minds and to be watchful and spiritually strong. The first step in defending yourself against spiritual warfare is acknowledging its existence and sincerely considering how it impacts you. The scriptures say “For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith” (Romans 1:17). Because the gospel reveals God’s righteousness, which is based entirely on faith, as stated in the verse above, (Romans 1:17).
You can’t deal with an anonymous adversary in the real world. The enemy is attempting to distract you from developing a prayerful intimacy with Jesus, therefore even if you can’t see it, it can be particularly harmful to your relationship with him. You must turn from Satan and submit to God in order to overcome this battle. You will be able to withstand the devil’s machinations if you surrender to God’s protection.
When you feel spiritually attacked, prayer is your most effective weapon. Use these prayers to shield yourself and your loved ones from harm:
-
Prayer to Prevent Spiritual Assaults
Lord, I am aware of the enemy’s attacks because I am contributing to Your Kingdom. Please, remember that the fight is yours, help me to rely less on my own strength and more on You. Fill me Your Spirit and make me aware of the dangers the enemy poses. I appreciate you supporting me in every conflict.
-
Request for God’s Protection
My Father in heaven, I have come to You in sorrow. Give me your protection and tranquilly. Put me under the shadow of your winds. Take the fear out of my heart and put divine calm in its stead. I only put my trust in You, in the name of Jesus.
-
Ask for Spiritual Strength in Prayer
When I feel weak, Almighty God, give me strength.” Protect my mind from the falsehoods of the enemy and lead me to Your will. Assist me in avoiding temptation and maintaining my faith. Cleanse my heart and make it easier for me to love You more every day in the name of Jesus, Amen,
-
Using prayer to put on God’s armour
I clad myself in God’s entire armour, O Lord. Allow me wear the gospel of peace, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith, the sword of the Spirit, and the belt of truth. Keep my family and I safe. Let all strange voices, save yours should be silenced. Give me the mentality of Christ and guide me according to Your Holy Word. Amen.
How to Stay Protected Through Faith
Spiritual warfare isn’t something to fear; it’s a call to stand firm in Christ. God’s Word, prayer, and spiritual vigilance are our defences. Daily time in Scripture and ongoing conversation with God strengthen us to overcome every attack.
As you grow in spiritual maturity, consider joining with other believers to intercede for your family, church, and nation. One opportunity to do this is during the Days set aside for Prayer every year, a powerful moment of unity and spiritual protection across Churches especially the people of God around the world. Spiritual attacks are real—but so is God’s protection for his people. Use these prayers daily, stand in faith, and trust that God is fighting for you. He is your refuge, strength, and shield in every battle.
How Jesus Engaged Spiritual Warfare
Read the Bible gives us many resources that can give you a deeper study into the work of the enemy, but this should give us a good start. The question I hope you are now asking is, “how do we engage in spiritual warfare?” For this answer, I want to look at Jesus’ example.
Firstly, it is important to realize that Jesus did not diagnose every problem as something to exorcise. The woman at the well had five husbands and the man she was currently with was not her husband (John 4:1-26). There was a good chance this woman had some demon problems. However, Jesus never addressed her in that way. In fact, He only exposed her shame; He never even asked her to repent or confess anything.
Again, the woman who had the issue with bleeding for twelve years probably also had an issue with demons. Not only did she have a long medical problem, but she also had let the doctors of her day ‘practice’ on her to try to get her well. In this instance, Jesus didn’t do anything except walk by (Luke 8:40-47).
Many of the times in which Jesus did come into more direct spiritual warfare, it was because the demons were initiating with Him. They would start screaming, “We know who you are!” These examples are important because spiritual warfare is real, but most of the times you will win the battle without confronting them directly. We need to be aware when we are to directly engage and when we are just simply to make no room for the enemy to stay.
Here are Prayers to Protect Yourself from Spiritual Warfare
With this overview of the battle in place, here are some spiritual warfare prayers or declarations that will position you for breakthrough. Pray them aloud until you believe them to be true.
- I will not let my awareness of the problem exceed my awareness of God. God is always greater; therefore, I will worship Him in the midst of the battle. As I stay connected to God, I will overcome the enemy.
- Jesus went to the cross to publicly humiliate the enemy (Colossians 2:13-15). I have no doubt that He would not now also come and remove the enemy that is before me.
- Jesus sent me out to drive out demons and advance His kingdom (Mark 3:14-15). He also commands me to love others (John 13:34-35). He will give me a plan of attack that removes the enemy and respects the person.
- Jesus has already won the battle. He laughs at the plans of the enemy (Psalm 2:4). If spiritual warfare is hard, I haven’t received God’s complete plan of attack.
- We overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21), therefore I will focus my attention on the goodness of God in response to the evil in front of me. It is this goodness that I will declare and make known.
- For though I live in the world, I do not wage war as the world does. The weapons I fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. I demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and I take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
- My struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). I will stand my ground with truth, righteousness, and peace, and I will defend the enemy’s attacks with my faith. I will advance against the enemy by speaking out the word of God applied to every situation (Ephesians 6:14-17).
- Holding firm to the truth will bring freedom (John 8:31-32). When the enemy speaks his lies to others, or me I will declare God’s goodness and my steadfast belief that He is for us (Romans 8:31).
- I have been given authority in Christ, therefore when confronting the enemy; they will recognize it and have to respond accordingly. I will first quiet the enemy, and then determine whether the person who is effected wants to be free.
- No matter what power the enemy manifests, God is greater still. When I tell the enemy to leave, I can command them to come out without manifestation. The person does not need to be embarrassed or felt like a victim. The person is powerful and has control of him/herself.
Conclusion
I hope you find the prayers above helpful to you as you approach praying spiritual warfare. Each time it will be different and you will need to have your faith and trust in God, but these prayers will refocus you on a battle plan for success. Even Jesus had demons not obey him at first (Luke 8:28-31). Don’t be discouraged. Hold your ground and trust breakthrough is coming.
