God's Word is Medicine In this article:

  1. God’s Word is Medicine
  2. The Word of God

The scripture states “I am the LORD who heals you” [Exodus 15:26]. We read in the Book of Psalms, “the LORD who heals all your diseases” [Psalms 103:2-3]. God is your physician. The medicine He prescribes is his Holy Word [Psalms 107:20, John 1:14].

My son, attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh [Proverbs 4:20-22, NASB].

God’s Word has the directions for your cure. You follow the directions for the medication that God has prescribe to you for the life and health of your body. The directions given in Proverbs 4:20-22, tell us to pay attention to what God says. Listen carefully to his words. Don’t lose sight of his words. Let his Words penetrate deep into your heart. Because his Words brings life to you and healing to all your body.

In Proverbs 4:22, the Hebrew word for health is מרפא marpe’. Thayer’s Lexicon defines marpe’ as “health, healing, cure”. Strong’s Lexicon defines marpe’ as a curative, a cure, literally a medicine. The tongue of the wise is health (marpe’) [Proverbs 12:18]. A wholesome (marpe’) tongue is a tree of life [Proverbs 15:4].

You honor God as the great physician by taking His medicine, the Word of God. You continue to spend time meditating on God’s Word and renewing your mind [Romans 12:2]. But you must take His healing word in your mouth and speak it, because faith has something to say [2 Corinthians 4:13]. You are diligent to take your prescription daily or more frequently till you receive your cure. You must not neglect His healing prescription for you.

I will speak the life giving, spiritual words of Jesus [John 6:63]. My tongue will speaks life and not death [Proverbs 18:21]. I will confess [homologeo-Romans 10:10] what God says about my situation. I will bring forth a good treasure of good things from my heart [Matthew 12:35, AMP]. My words are the working, productive Word of God. Jesus said by my words, I will be justified and by my words I will be condemned [Matthew 12:37]. I will not allow my mouth to utter idle [argos] lazy, free from labor, none working words [Matthew 12:36]. I will use the Word of God with my mouth. My heart overflows with faith and my mouth speaks faith and confidence in God’s Word [Matthew 12:34].

Since we know there is no failure with God, it is obvious that when believers do not receive their healing, the problem must lie elsewhere. Keeping this in mind, we need to realize that healing largely depends on a firm stand in the fact that your prayer has been heard, and that it has been answered. The challenge then comes in not wavering from God’s Word [Romans 4:20]. And in part, that means we need to keep our tongue in line with what God says about our healing.

To help you stay in line with the final Word on healing, look up the following scriptures in your Bible, then read them over and over, and meditate on them. It may even help you to write or type them out on separate paper so you can have easier access to them throughout your day.

He that keeps his mouth keeps his life; but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction [Proverbs 13:3]. A wholesome [marpe’] tongue is a tree of life; but perverseness [crookedness, crooked dealing] there in is a breach in the spirit [Proverbs 15:4]. Pleasant [kind] words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health [marpe’] to the bones [Proverbs 16:24]. Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit there of [Proverbs 18:21]. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones [Proverbs 3:7-8]. What man is he that desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil [bad, disagreeable, malignant], and thy lips from speaking guile [deceit, treachery] [Psalms 34:13-14, I Peter 3:10-11]. A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones [Proverbs 17:22].

The Word of God

The Apostle Paul declares that Jesus, “is the image of the invisible God” and “the image of God” [Colossians 1:15, 2 Corinthians 4:4]. Paul is saying, if you have seen Jesus then you have seen the invisible God. The invisible Godhead becomes visible in Jesus Christ [Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:8-10, Acts 17:29].

The Apostle John said about Jesus, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life” [1 John 1:1]. In Revelation 19:11-16, John describes Jesus as, “clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God” [Revelation 19:13].

Jesus said to Philip, “he who has seen Me has seen the Father” [John 14:9]. In John 1:14, we read, “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. The scripture states that Jesus, the Son “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person” in Hebrews 1:3. The NASB reads, “the exact representation of His nature”.

The invisible Godhead becomes visible in Jesus Christ [Colossians 1:15, 2 Corinthians 4:4]. Jesus is the exact representation of God’s nature, the image of the invisible God, and the Word of God made flesh [Hebrews 1:3, NASB, John 1:14, Revelation 19:13].

What Does the Word of God Look Like?

What does the scripture say Jesus was doing throughout the Gospels? He was “teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people” [Matthew 4:23 and Mass Healing Events]. So we see what the Word of God looks like when it becomes flesh .

The LORD, is our Yahweh Rapha’ [Jah-Way Raw-Faw]. He has prescribed or “sent His Word (Jesus Christ) to heal us and deliver us out of all our destructions” [Psalms 107:20]. God’s personal Healing Word to you is, Jesus took your infirmities and bore your sickness [Matthew 8:16-17, Isaiah 53:4] and by his stripes you are healed [Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24]. The Scripture states that Jesus, “healed them that had need of healing”. Do you need Jesus to heal you? [Luke 9:11]
